Portrait of a Bride and explanation of Candid Photography

I really enjoy so many aspects of photography, and so many different “looks” and types, that it is hard to decide on a specific style that I enjoy most. This is certainly a joyful style for me, though- the candid portrait. Formal portraits, or something where I can control light, looks, expressions, etc, are all very fun and a good place to show skill as a photographer. Candids are more about speed and the ability to catch an unguarded look.

Anyways, see more of my work (lots of candids, but much variety as well) at www.kelleybard.com. Enjoy!

Bride Shot… and thanks to all who have been visiting, I appreciate it!

Bridal photo- This photo was taken right before the ceremony, and the bride (who was quite nervous) looks confident and radiant as she waits in hiding for the ceremony to start. I love her style, she made the beautiful photos very easy to take!

This one is headed for the wedding portfolio on www.kelleybard.com.

Wedding Photo-Off… which version do you like?

So, what do you think? different crops, images, processing… Up to you, really. Let me know your thoughts. I know that I think the out of focus B&W is my favorite. But all are enjoyable.

More at www.kelleybard.com. I’ll be gone for a few days but back bursting with new, exciting travel images and a new wedding in early Sept. So come back soon!

Setting The Scene- Wedding Photos and Reminder of Creative Commons Usage (my pic was used in a blog!)

I like photos that tell a story. In tonights editing spree, I decided to focus on photos that tell a story. These were the ones that stood out for me. I think background shots like these don’t have to be throwaways, if they are useful in moving the story along. Specifically for a photo book or album. I really like the bride and maid of honor holding hands, btw. Just seemed so sweet.

**News**

Totally stoked! For the first time, I was asked if one of my photos could be used in someone’s blog. The person, from Singapore, used an earlier photo of mine to illustrate her story (see blog here). I was so honored! My photos are licensed Creative Commons Non-Commercial, so that gives usage rights as long as you attribute a photo back to me “Kelley Bard Photography” and to my website. Feel free to use my images for that if you wish, as well! And let me know, so I can push traffic your way, too. And so I can get this silly glowy feeling again!

Bride-A-Paloosa and Rough Wedding Workflow

Bride shots are done! Gorgeous, fun images (well, the bride is gorgeous… I guess it’s up to you to decide whether my photos do her justice!).

BTW, if anyone is interested in my workflow through the wedding process, it’s this:

(after wedding)

Bring photos into Lightroom.

Sort through my photos and assistant’s photos, categorizing them first (bride, groom, ceremony, dress, reception, cake eating, whatever is needed for your particular wedding). Then picking the best and flagging them in Lightroom.

Work on the flagged ones, finishing the bride, wedding party, groom, family, prep and ceremony photos completely; informal and reception photos cleaned up (color balance, etc) but not more than that.

Post all to site, in order of when they occurred during the day, and make a disk of the images so far.

Ask for changes, etc, and get an order when finished. Another disk.

Get a happy wedding couple!

Wove. Twue Wove. (Wedding Photos, Take 2)

I’m aware that I don’t have any groom photos in the wedding post titled “wove. Twue wove.” (A quote, by the way, used in both my own wedding AND this one). But the glowy, happy look on the brides face, and the obvious photos of her with people she loves (her father, her maid of honor) show it clearly.

So there. 🙂

Enjoy the images! I sure am. And yes, I’ll be posting more variety (read: not wedding photos only) in the next few days. I’ve got a bunch from a recent trip to Mesa Verde, as well as some mixed landscapes and portraits. After all, I love my lifescapes, so I love showing them off!
