Portrait of a Bride and explanation of Candid Photography

I really enjoy so many aspects of photography, and so many different “looks” and types, that it is hard to decide on a specific style that I enjoy most. This is certainly a joyful style for me, though- the candid portrait. Formal portraits, or something where I can control light, looks, expressions, etc, are all very fun and a good place to show skill as a photographer. Candids are more about speed and the ability to catch an unguarded look.

Anyways, see more of my work (lots of candids, but much variety as well) at www.kelleybard.com. Enjoy!

Bride Shot… and thanks to all who have been visiting, I appreciate it!

Bridal photo- This photo was taken right before the ceremony, and the bride (who was quite nervous) looks confident and radiant as she waits in hiding for the ceremony to start. I love her style, she made the beautiful photos very easy to take!

This one is headed for the wedding portfolio on www.kelleybard.com.

Wedding Photos!

I was woefully late (almost a full week) in posting photos from last weekend’s wedding shoot, so here you go. Great, relaxed couple that I’ve been blessed to photograph several times. They wanted an autumn-ish wedding, so I processed it with a warm glow to show off all of the flower colors and such. Fun to shoot, for sure!

More at www.kelleybard.com!

BTW, I’m sitting here late at night, downloading music, listening to much more awake tunes than I should be at this hour, working on photos. How lucky am I?? Life is great.

Bride-A-Paloosa and Rough Wedding Workflow

Bride shots are done! Gorgeous, fun images (well, the bride is gorgeous… I guess it’s up to you to decide whether my photos do her justice!).

BTW, if anyone is interested in my workflow through the wedding process, it’s this:

(after wedding)

Bring photos into Lightroom.

Sort through my photos and assistant’s photos, categorizing them first (bride, groom, ceremony, dress, reception, cake eating, whatever is needed for your particular wedding). Then picking the best and flagging them in Lightroom.

Work on the flagged ones, finishing the bride, wedding party, groom, family, prep and ceremony photos completely; informal and reception photos cleaned up (color balance, etc) but not more than that.

Post all to site, in order of when they occurred during the day, and make a disk of the images so far.

Ask for changes, etc, and get an order when finished. Another disk.

Get a happy wedding couple!

1 Nature Shot, 2 REALLY Cute Kids

Sweet photos from a recent photo shoot and a not-so-recent-but-recently-finished waterfall image. Sorry about no posts the past 2 days… I’ve been wiped. It’s nice being busy with photography, really! I know I’m lucky to get to do something I love. but when I get a bunch of jobs and some are rush jobs, I’m a bit overwhelmed. I think I will learn better post-processing as I go, I’m already tons faster and better than when I started.

Contemplating Maternity and new work at www.kelleybard.com

I really like the look on this woman’s face… but I didn’t want to make the image into a sad, contemplative photo, as you don’t want sad, maternity images (that may sell SOMEWHERE but not to my clients!!). So I tried to turn it into a warmer image with the slight color tint. I suppose I could also go in with Liquify and give her a bit of a smile… I love photoshop. Have I said this before?!? Anyways, I like how this came out. The blur makes the dress (some wrinkles were distracting) come out better, a slight vignetting helped with the focus, and the stark but warm image with the beautiful skin and hair really ties it all together.

In maternity images, I know that most clients will buy 1-2 images, maybe a few for family but never the amount that a family or baby shoot brings out. But that doesn’t matter much to me. It is such a special moment in women’s lives, and a time when they are truly gorgeous and glowing… I’m glad to get to celebrate that. I try to bring together art and classic imagery with these shoots, to clearly show the beauty being presented.

Enjoy my work at www.kelleybard.com. I redid the portfolios last night so there are more images (from my client folders, in many cases) which have not been shown before. Enjoy!
